Mr. Lekas serves as the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer, and as the Designated Agency Ethics Official and Chief Privacy Officer. From 2015 to 2017, he served as a senior lawyer at the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), most recently as the Deputy General Counsel for Legal Counsel. Mr. Lekas advised senior government officials on national security matters, led legal and policy initiatives through Executive Branch deliberations, and oversaw all significant litigation involving DoD. Mr. Lekas also served as chief legal counsel on privacy and civil liberties, managed Congressional oversight on sensitive topics, led cybersecurity initiatives, and developed DoD’s position on complex legal questions. Previously, Mr. Lekas practiced law for over a decade in New York and Washington at the firms WilmerHale, Brune & Richard, and Shearman & Sterling. His practice included high-profile investigations, sensitive litigation, crisis response, compliance, and pro bono service. Mr. Lekas graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College with a concentration in Social Studies and received his JD from Harvard Law School. Mr. Lekas is a member of the Parish Council of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda, Maryland.
