FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 1, 2018
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Chairman Joe Heck of the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service released the following statement on the passing of President George H.W. Bush:
“On behalf of the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the entire Bush family. The Commissioners and I mourn President George H.W. Bush’s passing and hold his family, and all who were inspired by his commitment to our country, in our thoughts and prayers.
“President Bush lived his life in service to others and as a strong leader who believed service could unite Americans. As a decorated Navy veteran and a dedicated public servant, he embodied the Commission’s vision: every American, inspired and eager to serve. His commitment to service continued long after his presidency through Points of Light, a nonprofit, non-partisan organization that celebrates the power of service.
“We are eternally grateful for the legacy of service President Bush leaves behind. As he once said, ‘any definition of a successful life must include service to others.’ Those words still ring true as our bipartisan commission follows in his footsteps to develop a strong ethos of service across our Nation. As the Commission continues our work, we will uphold President Bush’s vision.
